about

We're please to share this new tune and video with you- (Even a Clown Should Know) When The Circus Ends.

This song garnered a "honorable mention" award in American Songwriter Magazine's songwriting contest in Spring of 2017. The tune just kind of came out one day when I randomly grabbed a Big Baby Taylor in the studio one morning- The first lines "Blow a kiss and just walk away---" came out of nowhere, and the tune just flowed. I was walking around NYC that afternoon, with about half of the tune written- when all of a sudden, the last verse started coming in....

We recorded this as live as we could- with a few overdubbed parts, but I'm real happy with the warmth of the overall recording- As always, a nod of thanks, and extreme gratitude to the Dirt Napper crew.

And a special thank you to Ian Timothy- a VERY talented animator- for letting me hijack his clown for this song...

(Even a Clown Should Know)-When The Circus Ends
Verse
D D(C#bass) Bm7 D D(C#bas) Bm7 Blow a kiss and just walk away-Take that step and have your day G G(F#bass) Em7 A
'Cause this time, you need to go it alone
D D(C#bass) Bm7 D D(C#bas) Bm7 We can take another chance, But we both know it won't last E7th A
Maybe this time-we should let it go
Chorus
Bm F#m GA
I'm not asking you girl- to try again
Bm F#m G A /A Even a clown should know, when the circus ends
Verse
You brush the hair away from my eyes, The song on the box still makes you smile Cause it brings back- another time and place.
So let the morning sunrise shine, & let me hold you one more time
And maybe, you'll kiss me goodbye -
Chorus
I'm not asking you girl- to try again
Even a clown should know, when the circus ends
Instrumental
D D(C#bass) Bm7 (3x)
G G(F#bass) A /A
Verse
So let the foot lights dim as the tent comes down-Leaving now for another town- And the band plays, a broken waltz.
What the greasepaint hides and the spotlight shows-We both knew it long ago So we'll let, the curtain fall.
Chorus
I'm not asking you girl- to try again
Even a clown should know, when the circus ends
